Step 1- Adding a Sharepoint folder in Windows

 

Before adding the Sharepoint folder please consult your Administrator to confirm the correct address and credentials.  The following instructions are a general guideline only and may not work for your Sharepoint setup.

Windows 7: Open Computer, right-click in an empty area and click Add a network location.

Windows XP: Open MyComputer, click My Network Places, click Add a network place.

 

Click Next then click ‘choose a custom network location’ and click Next.

 

Enter the address of your Sharepoint site and click Next.

 

When prompted enter the username and password provided by your Administrator, check ‘Remember my credentials’ and click OK.

 

Once authenticated you will be asked to name the network location (rename or leave the default name) and click Next.

 

To complete adding the network location click Finish.

 

 

Step 2- Add Sharepoint site to Internet Options trusted sites.

 

Click Start, Select the Control Panel and open Internet Options.

 

Select the Security tab, click Local Intranet then click Sites.

 

Confirm the ‘Automatically detect intranet network’ box is NOT checked. Click Advanced. Enter the address of your Sharepoint site, confirm the ‘Require server verification check box is NOT checked, and click Add.

Click Close.

Open Finder, click Go and click ‘Connect to Server’.

Enter ‘http://sharepoint.yourcompany.com/Shared Documents’, click the ‘+’ (plus sign) to add the Sharepoint connection to favourite servers and click Connect.

You will be prompted to authenticate yourself. Choose Registered User, enter your username and password and click Connect.

Once connected, click View (from Finder) and select ‘as Columns’.

In the left column beneath SHARED click your Sharepoint connection. In the right column click your Sharepoint folder icon and drag it into your user’s Home Folder. You can now click the shortcut in your Home Folder to connect to Sharepoint.

To add a shortcut to your Desktop, right-click on the shortcut in your Home Folder that you just created and choose Copy. Then place that Copy on your Desktop.

Problem: You receive an error when trying to copy/downlaod a file from a Sharepoint site/folder similar to:


The error indicates that the file you are moving is too large.


Resolution: Download the file at http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9821725

When download is complete run the file (if the file cannot be run contact your Administrator).


1. Click “I Agree” then click “Next”  



2. Enter the 4294967295 (the number underlined above) into the FileSizeLimitInBytes box and click “Next”  



3. Wait as a Registry restore point is created. Then click “Next”.

 


4. Click “Close”.  



5. Click “Yes to restart your computer.
